CleanMates ("we", "us", or "our") operates the CleanMates mobile application (the "App"). This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding it.

1. Information We Collect

We collect the following information when you use CleanMates:

• Account information — your email address and display name when you create an account.
• House & chore data — house name, invite codes, chore assignments, and completion logs (including optional photos you choose to upload as proof).
• Postcode — your UK postcode, used only to verify you are in a supported region.
• Energy lead information — if you submit a request via the Move In tab, we collect the details you provide (e.g. name, contact details, postcode) in order to refer you to our energy partner.
• Shopping list data — items you add to your house's shared shopping list, and which items you mark as bought.
• Affiliate interaction data — when you tap a "Buy" link in the Supplies tab, we record which item was tapped to understand demand. We do not receive your purchase, payment, or order details.
• Notification token — if you allow notifications, we store a push notification token so the app can alert you to relevant house activity.
• Device & usage data — basic technical information (e.g. device type, OS version, app version) collected automatically to maintain the service.

2. How We Use Your Information

• Provide and operate the CleanMates app and chore rota features.
• Allow housemates to join shared houses and track chore completion.
• Display leaderboard points within your house group.
• Process and forward energy referral requests to our partner (Do Energy / Student Energy Group) when you opt in via the Move In tab.
• Operate the shared household shopping list and show which items have been bought.
• Understand which household supplies are in demand through anonymous Buy-link interaction data.
• Send push notifications about house activity (e.g. a chore logged or a supply bought) when you enable them.
• Improve and debug the app.

3. Sharing Your Information

We do not sell your personal data. We share it only in these circumstances:

• Housemates — your display name, chore completions, and points are visible to other members of your shared house within the app.
• Energy partner — if you submit an energy referral, your submitted details are shared with Do Energy / Student Energy Group solely to process that referral.
• Amazon (affiliate) — the Supplies tab contains affiliate links. When you tap "Buy", you are taken to Amazon. CleanMates is a participant in the Amazon EU Associates Programme and may earn a commission on qualifying purchases, at no extra cost to you. Once you are on Amazon, your activity is governed by Amazon's own privacy policy; we do not receive your payment or order information.
• Service providers — we use Supabase (database and authentication infrastructure) and Expo (push notification delivery). Your data is stored on Supabase servers in accordance with their privacy policy.
• Legal requirements — we may disclose data if required by law.

4. Data Storage & Security

Your data is stored securely via Supabase. Session tokens are stored locally on your device using encrypted storage. We apply row-level security policies to ensure users can only access data belonging to their own house.

5. Photo Uploads

Photos you upload as chore completion proof are stored on our servers and are visible to members of your house. Do not upload photos containing sensitive personal information. You can delete your chore logs (and associated photos) at any time from within the app.

6. Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your personal data will be deleted within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it by law.

7. Your Rights (UK GDPR)

As a UK resident, you have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you.
• Request correction of inaccurate data.
• Request deletion of your data.
• Object to or restrict how we process your data.
• Lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).

8. Children's Privacy

CleanMates is not intended for anyone under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes via the app or email. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
